Do you ever buy something thinking “I don’t know exactly what I’m going to do with that, but I’m getting it and will figure out the rest later”? Or, am I the only one?
I bought this table from Hobby Lobby probably 4 years ago, maybe even longer? I knew I wanted to paint it, but didn’t have a point of inspiration or place in mind to put it. I don’t know what has gotten into my, maybe it’s the One Room Challenge, but my creativity is rocking lately! If you’re a person who embraces creativity, you know how exhilarating that feeling can be. Things like sleep and work get in the way and break your stride. But until that glorious days comes when I can blog all day and night, you’ll hear about my bursts of energy one project at a time.
Back to the table. I needed a side table on the other side of my bed. This table fits, so I’ve got the location. I actually didn’t know until yesterday how I wanted to paint it. I toyed with different ideas, graphics and even looked at stencils. I thought about how I can use tape to make a cook design. I’ve done projects with tape before, so this option was growing on me. I didn’t want to do stripes or a chevron pattern, or even herringbone. Then it dawned on me! Greek Key! But could I actually pull it off? Heck yeah, I did!
Check it out!
The offending table… that’s Falala napping next to it. She can never stay away when I’m doing a project!
I painted the table in gold metallic paint (color: Pale Gold) from Modern Masters that I won at Haven this summer. Note, the grainy texture on the top makes the paint look streaky in this photo – trust me, it’s fully covered.
I used regular ole black electrical tape to create my design. In case you’re wondering, the tape did not peel off any gold paint.
I peeled off the tape and VOILA! Do you see the mistake I made? 😉 I fixed it before I put it in my room.
