Some people have a thing for artwork. Some for throw pillows, or sheets, or dishes. Me? I have a thing for chairs. The mid-century, contemporary, classically designed, I-will-keep-forever kind.
It started about 10 years ago. Every time I would see these chairs in magazines (there was no Pinterest then), I would want them a little more. I realized I could never afford the real deal. Most of these chairs are $500-$1500 each. Oh yes. So not in my budget. But, I was starting to find places that would sell knock off’s. And 10 years ago, these chairs were not as popular as they are now.
So I thought this would be a neat way to do a “Hi – Lo” post since I am always looking for a good copy cat!

Famous Chair #3: Saarinen Tulip Chair
Hi: You can find a beautiful sparkly new Saarinen Tulip Side Chair for $1,527 here.
Lo: You can find multiple variations of the chair anywhere from Amazon to Etsy, and other modern furniture manufacturers for around $120. You can read the story about my chair here. (It involves me driving 90 miles each way, but was sooooo worth it.)
Famous Chair #4: Eames Management Chair
Hi: Genuine Eames Management Chairs are about $1500.
Lo: I think I spent $229 on mine (about 8 years ago). You can find one here for $179.
Next on my list… The Knoll Bertoia Chair!
I have another funny shipping story with my Eames chair. I opened the box and inside was my Eames chair, AND the two seats of Knoll Bertoia Chairs!!! I freaked out because that is the chair at the top of my list to find next. I took this as a sign that God wanted me to have these chairs, right? I called the store and asked if I can purchase the legs or if we can come up with some kind of deal. But they won’t send me the legs! For real! So they have two sets of legs that they cannot sell to anyone else, nor will they sell them to me. So now I’m on the hunt for someone who can make two bases for me… I’ll be sure to let you know when I have two complete chairs.
Hi: You can purchase one for $726 here.
Lo: There are oodles of options on Amazon starting around $125
I hope you liked my first Hi – Lo post! I’ll do more in the future, so let me know what you would like to find knock off’s of. I love searching for the best price!
