A classic traditional Christmas decor look in greens, black and white. Different garlands blended together to create custom decorations for a mantle.

Hello friends! Christmas is already peeking around the corner, nudging us all to start thinking Black Friday, Clark Griswold and Christmas Play Lists on Pandora. Pinterest has set my mind into a frenzy of Christmas decor ideas! I mean, those houses!!! Makes me want to move to a small town in New England and get a black and white Cape Cod house, an old Wagoneer car, and a Golden Retriever who poses perfectly for those oh-so-candid shots 😉
So when JOANN asked me to decorate my mantle this year, I did what I always do and took forever to decide how I wanted to decorate it. I like so many styles, but just like color – I can’t commit. I decided to go classic with greens, whites and blacks. Can’t go wrong with that combo.

I have a thing for garland…
One of the trends I was noticing was how folks are mixing greenery for garlands. Love this idea, but I was nervous I would mess it up. So what I ended up doing was taking the original garland back into the store with me and held it next to other garlands. I wasn’t seeing what I hoped for… but then I saw these Lambs Ears bushels and snatched ’em up real fast. I wove them in with the garland, and knew I had found my winner.
When I got home to assemble it, I ended up taking wire cutters to cut them down to individual short stems so they were easier to tuck into the garland. Yep, I was loving it!

I ordered the garland and wreaths online. If you do the same, please know the garland is very thin. I have five strands on my mantle. The wreaths are full, fluffy and lovely.

In case you’re wondering, I used some old Command hooks on top of my bookcases to hold the wreath ribbon in place.

And much to my delight, cowbells are super trendy this year for Christmas, and JOANN had the perfect set for my mantle.

What do you think of my cute little candle-Evergreen-snowy mountain lanterns? I thought they turned out pretty cute! And they are so easy!
