I have a split level home, therefore my staircase gets a ton a traffic, usually when people have their shoes on. So my stairs have taken a beating, not to mention the builder used a rainbow of materials. From the top of the stairs to the bottom, you would walk across (in order) carpet, ugly linoleum, carpet again, tile.
The BEFORE…
I have been dreaming of walnut floors and white trim since I became a homeowner, so the decision was obvious. I went through all the stains I had in my garage and snagged some from my parents house.
TIP: The same can of stain can look different on different types of wood. I bought an actual step from Lowes – the same kind that would be in my house so I could get an accurate look as so what the finished color would look like.

I know that the first impression guests have of my house is my entry. With that being said, I didn’t want it to look like a hack job (or like I had done it myself). I did hire out for the this job and I am so glad I did! Here are some ‘In Progress’ pics:
