Hey’all! I’m so excited for the One Room Challenge! It’s a fun challenge to all DIY and decor bloggers to make over one room in 6 weeks. It can get kinda crazy at time, but it’s so fun to see not only my own room transform, but those of my blogger friends. There are many late nights, revised floor plans, dozens of trips to the hardware store, Amazon orders that need to be overnight shipped, bedding that gets exchanged for a new ceiling light, and midnight photo shoots.
I. LOVE. IT.
I made over my master bedroom for the fall One Room Challenge. I decided to do it at the last minute. I’ve changed some things since then and I’m still working on a few more edits. I’ll be sure to show you those changes once I’m really happy with it 🙂
This time, I’m doing my guest bedroom. See later in post for scary BEFORE picture. Here is my inspiration photo:
Don’t you just love it? I’m going for a more laid-back, cozy, Swedish, midcentury, muted feel. There are a lot of things that inspire me in this photo. The midcentury wood dresser. The back trim on the duvet. The not too fussy look of the bedding. The crown molding at the ceiling. The muted color scheme. The wide metallic frame on the mirror. The contrast of the black and white rug. (sigh) Yep, I love it all.
Are you ready to see what it looked like before I moved into my house? Brace yourself…
I got the room to a livable point. Painted the walls, refinished a headboard, crisp white bedding. I even refinished some bookshelves that my grandfather made years ago. But then it became my dumping group for all things linen, curtain, down comforter, bedding, pillow and towel related. Argh. Yes, even decor bloggers have rooms we hide from everyone!
My plan for this room:
- New dresser – hello, thrift stores!
- curtains – I have fun DIY idea for this 🙂
- cool distressed wood accent on window seat
- Change out the headboard?
- New bedding
- New rugs, lighting and artwork
- crown molding at ceiling
- maybe paint the ceiling a soft gray?
- Organize the closet in that room to accommodate the pillow and bedding situation going on in the above photo…
I had better boogie now and get working on this room. I have a lot of work to get done!
Have a wonderful week and happy decorating 😉
