A grown up office update with back to school supplies and accessories that are budget friendly and stylish.
click here If you’re new to The Striped House, welcome! I made over my office a couple years ago. Then I gave it a refresh this spring. This fall, I teamed up with Gordman’s to have a little back to school fun and decked it out with new supplies and accessories.
This post was sponsored by Specialty Retailers INC, but all opinions are my own.

Does anyone else get jealous of school age kids who get to go back to school shopping? I love walking past displays of fresh notebooks, pens and backpacks. I get a kick out of how brands from when I was kid are making comebacks, which makes me want a Trapper Keeper all over again.
A couple Saturdays ago, I cruised on out to Fremont (a smaller town 45 minutes from Omaha), and spent a couple hours going up and down the aisles at Gordmans. I am always shocked at how much I can fill up my cart(s) for $150! God bless off-price retailers. (That’s what type of store Gordmans is). Off-price retailers buy excess inventory from department and specialty stores, then sell them for GREATLY reduced prices. This means that gals like me, who want to rock my house on a budget, can do exactly that.
Side observation: I’ve never seen the same items at other retail stores, which makes me more excited to see what they have.
The gold and acrylic basket on my desk – $12. Really!
Those black metal and glass hurricane lanterns were $9 each! And I can reuse those for so many other purposes! I bought some sand at the local craft store and poured some in each lantern to help give the some added weight, but looks a little more grown up. And that cutie little wood branch and glass candle holder that I’m using for colored pencils was $4.
I am digging my new lamp. I am really into smaller lamps and using those in lieu of bigger bright lights – especially during evening hours.
Gordmans’ mission is to thrill every guest with fun finds and exciting deals at every turn. There’s need to hunt for bargains at Gordmans – treasures are always in store with exceptional style at competitive prices, every day.
Gordmans is changing the off-price retailer game by working hard to offer you more deals and more style than ever before. Plus, the friendly associates at Gordmans are there to help you choose a new outfit or help you find pieces to complete the vision you have for your home –something you don’t find at other retailers. Come on in and see for yourself; I think you’re going to like what you see!
I couldn’t walk out without a fresh notebook! I have a ton of smaller notebooks, but I use them all! I spotted this cute little pink box of office supplies. I use binder clips for everything, and magnets on my file cabinets so this is perfect for me. The quote along the top of the notepaper made me smile: “set goals & crush them”.
The gold magazine holder was $14, I think? It’s perfect for me and my growing collection of House Beautiful and Traditional Home magazines.
Side note: not sponsored, but still cute, I bought the striped dog bed below for Toby – he’s the red tiger cat. Striped House, striped cat, striped bed… 😉 But I didn’t anticipate Bridget thinking it was bunk beds. But they both “fit” and it keeps them off my desk when I’m working. The bed was $14 which is the cheapest I have ever found plush pet beds.
This wood vertical organizer is filling up fast. It’s perfect for me my ever growing collection of ebooks and techy courses that I love. And one section is just for business receipts, etc. I think it was $15? And it gets the mountains of papers off my desk.
I upgraded my pen cups. The gold one is an actual pen cup, but the glass one is a candle holder. The white tray helps give some order to the top of my bookshelf.
Do you like the quote on my marquis board? I’ve been wanting one of these signs for a while and I think this one was $12.
I hope you all have a wonderful and safe Labor Day weekend. If you see any good sales on school supplies, be sure to let me know, haha!
Until next time, happy DIY’ing!
