Hello friends 🙂 I’ve made some more progress on my guest bedroom. In case you’re new to The Striped House, I’m participating in a six week makeover challenge with other bloggers all across the country. One Room Challenge, hosted by Linda at Calling It Home, is twice a year and this is my second go around. You can see my Master Bedroom makeover here. If you want to see how my guest bedroom has progressed, you can get updates here, here, and here.
The two big things I’ve gotten done this week are the rug and dresser. I found the dresser in a thrift shop in a small town 30 minutes outside of Omaha. It was in the sixth and final thrift store in that town. It’s pretty much exactly what I wanted, thank you decorating angels! Bonus: I don’t even need to strip/sand/stain it. It’s not in perfect shape, but it’s definitely good enough and I like that it looks genuine to that era.
The only work I did to the dresser was WD-40’ed the wheels at the bottom, and shined up the handles with this product. Thank God I have a mother who pretty much knows the answers to all of my home decor questions. I asked “Do they make products that clean brass?” Two second later she walks into the room with a product and rag. Yep, she’s pretty much the best.
The rug is from IKEA. I found a company in Omaha that makes weekly trips to IKEA in Kansas City and takes shopping orders. Greatest. Thing. Ever. I was just at IKEA a month ago, but couldn’t decide on a some things, so I placed an order with Omaha Modern, paid by PayPal and two days later, those items were in my house! I was insired to switch up my rug when a friend of mine mentioned how she looked into a site like https://info.bazaarvelvet.com/rug-quality-guide, which she said, made it a lot easier to find the right rug for her. I mean, she can be quite picky, but who isn’t when it comes to making our homes look the best they can be. I think a rug is a great addition to any part of the home, especially in the bedroom and the living room.
Things I can check off my list:
- Bedding
- Window area
- flower pot
- dresser
- rug
Things still left to do in the remaining TWO weeks!
- install the new light that is currently on my dining room table 😉
- install crown molding
- find a head board! (this is one thing freaking me out…)
- wait for mirror to arrive and paint the frame
- order artwork, then frame and hang them
- organize the bookcases on the wall opposite of the bed
- accessories
Big Tuna returned for the photos. I kid you not. He was sleeping on the other side of the house, and woke up suddenly when I starting shooting. I tried to keep him off the bed, and then he decided he wanted to be on the dresser. In my best stern Mom voice, I said “Tobias Franco McTyler (his full name), get off of the dresser now.” He refused to look at me. He knows. Can you see the faint stripes where he was flicking his tail. Kids…
Fingers crossed I’ll get a lot done and will have a lot to show you next week. I am going out of town May 6-8, and I would love to have the room completed by then!
I love the dresser and the rug!
